This was another "Showcase" show. I did the design this time. It was a simple design and I used many of the pieces that we already had on hand from other shows. I used the trees again and we used the rocks that we always have in the shop.We did make the cottage new and I had to paint it in my own design using paint from previous shows. It was like working with a blank slate.
I had an initial design for it, but it didn't work so well. The door had to fill the flat. We didn't have a short door. So I had to alter my design to fit the door we had. We just added onto the top of the flats to make a roof. Then I painted it. I didn't really have it totally designed, I just worked it out as I went. 
At first I didn't like it and had to start again. I mixed the paint all over and started fresh and then I liked it much better. 
I also started with the cottage standing up, but it was difficult reaching the top of the roof. So we laid it down for me to finish it. It was still difficult reaching the middle of the cottage, but it was much easier to work on it without a ladder.
I was so pleased with how it looked onstage! I got so many complements!

   First Show  Dorothy in Wonderland Town Hall Theater/Washington Township Finished product for Dorothy in Wonderland I was so excited to get the job of a scenic painting artist (or charge artist) with the Town Hall Theater in Washington Township. The Town Hall Theater is a children's theater in the middle of uptown Centerville, Ohio. According to Wikipedia: A charge artist (or charge scenic artist and also head scenic artist) leads and oversees the painting of the stage. Best Christmas Pagent Ever

 Best Christmas Pageant Ever Dec. 2023 I was so excited about this play! After I read it, it made me think of my time as a church parent! It was designed by Chesapeake Dairymple (a professional scenic designer) and we had to follow her design. It was a wonderful design with minimal things in the stage. It was so exciting to see it coming to life! I painted everything on the stage this time, except for the undercoats which were thankfully done by assistants! The worst part for me was figuring out how to do the stained glass windows on wood and make them look like glass. It took me a week of samples just to figure it out! But finally I got it and it looked great! Figuring out how to do the woodgraining was less problematic, but still took some time. I borrowed a lot of things for the play from our church including the nativity costumes. Everything came out great! We were able to finish it on time, even with our hours cut back to 4 days a week! Puss in Boots

 Puss in Boots Jan. 19-21, 2024 This was my first time to design a show with Town Hall theater. This show was a "showcase" show, which means that it needed to be a simple design using things we already had. I decided to use items from two previous shows. The trees and rocks from "Into the Woods" and the tower from "Charlie." It came out better than I expected! Simple but effective and only took me a week to paint! It took them less time to build because they only had to cut three small moveable panels for the set. The lighting was very effective, it changed for different scenes! My first design was a success. Can't wait to do more!
