Enchanted Bookshop

Oct. 25-27

This was a fun show to work on. John my technical director designed it. It was a simple design, but it turned out great! Because it was a small "Showcase" show we had a limited budget. We used old flats to build the room and the paint colors were mixed out of old paint that we had leftover from other shows.

For the bookcases John had the idea to put the wood for the bookcases on over the flat to give it a 3D look. So we wood grained the pieces before we attached them to the flat. The books were painted all at once and all three of us worked on then all together at the same time.

Once the set was complete and installed there were a lot of details that I had to finish up at the theater. I had to paint details like plants and a bell over the door. I also had to do a painting for the wall, which didn't turn out that well. I also put titles on some of the books, painted a locked book, and create a glue bottle.

Overall I think that this set came out just terrific! One of our best sets ever!

Mixing colors was my first step....

Only had couple of hours to finish this painting. I didn't like how it turned out.

Certain books had to have titles on them....

This book had to have a lock and a title on it.

This is the way it goes everything goes back to the shop when it's finished!
